If you are interested in starting your own child day care program, Child Care Information Services of Cambria County can help. We provide information on training opportunities, grant money availability, and assist you in understanding the rules and regulations for participation in the subsidy program. Our agency has a wide variety of books and other resources that you are welcome to borrow and we can give you advice on issues related to your child care business. We will even help you market your program by giving your name to interested parents.

The following is a brief list of some things to consider when starting a child care center.
1. Decide what type of program you would like to offer. Types available are:

a) A DAY CARE CENTER - provides care for 7 or more children b) A GROUP DAY CARE Home - provides care for no more than 12 children c) A FAMILY DAY CARE Home - can care for 4, 5, or 6 children unrelated to the care giver |
2. Determine the needs for your area. Is there a need for child care in your area? What ages of children need care? Is there a need for care in the evenings or on weekends?
3. Contact your local municipality to check zoning ordinances.
4. Call the licensing office. They will send you information on the regulations for the type of program you would like to offer, as well as applications for Child Abuse and Criminal History clearances.
5. Begin developing your business plan.
